We used stainless steel nails on all the siding. All trim boards are preprimed before installation so there are no raw edges that can swell up and cause problems with paint adhesion over the years.

Tyrone laying the brick piers around the pilings. You'd never know this is a piling home from the outside. Ivan washed away the original home. This one's not going anywhere.

The pilings have to be beat and braced into final adjustment so that they are square and in line with were the beams will need to be. This is is critical to ending up with a square building with precise dimensions.

The pilings are hammered down the last 8' to get a firm purchase on the underlying soil. The number of hammer blows is recorded to verify the load capacity of the pilings as specified by the engineer.

Jetting the pilings. The subsurface soils were not very good so we had to use 30' pilings embedded 25'

The Melson residence

This home was built on the bay on short stub pilings faced with brick to create a creole craftsman style look. A mixture of horizontal lap siding, shake, and board and batten, and brick provide a pleasing blend of textures. Mr. Melson is a retired navy pilot and currently the facilities manager for UWF.

"Les did an outstanding job with the design and construction. Mine and my wife's expectations were greatly exceeded. My navy career kept us on the move our whole working lives and now we have settled down in our little piece of paradise on the bay close to our family in Milton. We are enjoying every day of our lives here. We love our home. "
